Leaders will weigh concrete steps on integration and resilience.<\/p>\n<p>The second EU\u2013Moldova summit will take place in Brussels on June 22. The European Union will be represented at the meeting by the head of the European Council, Ant\u00f3nio Costa, and by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, while from the Moldovan side President Maia Sandu will participate.<\/p>\n<p>The press service of the Council of the European Union announced this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis summit comes at a historic moment for both the EU and Moldova, after the opening of the first accession negotiations cluster. Enlargement is a geopolitical, strategic choice for a stronger and safer Europe, and we are firmly committed to Moldova\u2019s path to the EU.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Ant\u00f3nio Costa<\/p>\n<p>Participants and agenda items<\/p>\n<p>Leaders will assess Chi\u0219in\u0103u\u2019s progress in reforms, notably regarding the rule of law and the fight against organized crime. It is expected that the parties will discuss Moldova\u2019s integration into the EU internal market, energy security, and reaffirm their intent to strengthen the country\u2019s resilience in the face of Russia\u2019s hybrid attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Following the summit, a joint declaration is expected to be adopted.<\/p>\n<p>Moldova submitted its application for EU membership in March 2022, and accession negotiations officially started in June 2024.<\/p>\n<p>To support reforms and European integration, Brussels will allocate Moldova up to \u20ac1.9 billion for the period 2025\u20132027 under the new Growth Plan for Moldova.<\/p>\n<p>On 15 June 2026, at the intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg, Moldova and Ukraine opened the first negotiating cluster \u201cFoundations\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This summit reflects the EU and Moldova\u2019s commitment to a rapid deepening of their partnership and to strengthening the region\u2019s stability.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Brussels will host a high level summit that tests Moldova\u2019s reform momentum and accession progress.
