{"id":2457,"date":"2026-02-18T14:28:06","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T14:28:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/2457\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T14:28:06","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T14:28:06","slug":"brussels-pitches-english-first-approval-to-speed-up-eu-trade-deals-politico","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/2457\/","title":{"rendered":"Brussels pitches English-first approval to speed up EU trade deals\u00a0 \u2013 POLITICO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Frontloaded scrubbing<\/p>\n<p>Legal \u201cscrubbing\u201d \u2014 a time-consuming process that ensures both parties agree on the precise meaning of a text and not just the overall commitments \u2014 would be \u201cpartly frontloaded during negotiations\u201d and take place in parallel with the Commission\u2019s adoption of the text, as well its presentation to the Council.<\/p>\n<p>The streamlined procedure reflects an \u201curgent need to diversify our trade partners\u201d and to reap \u201cthe benefits of our trade agreements without delay,\u201d the Commission writes in its seven-page presentation, adding this would only be applied to trade agreements that fall under the exclusive competence of the EU.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The EU\u2019s recent agreements with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/india-slashes-tariffs-on-eu-cars-and-wine-in-exchange-for-steel-climate-concessions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">India<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/eu-strikes-deal-with-indonesia-to-strengthen-trade-ties\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Indonesia<\/a> would be test cases of this accelerated procedure.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be taken up on legal scrubbing on a fast-track basis as we discussed \u2026 and translated into 24 languages simultaneously.
