{"id":29068,"date":"2026-07-16T13:10:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T13:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/29068\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T13:10:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T13:10:13","slug":"red-bull-reverts-to-conventional-rear-wing-in-belgium-after-worrying-max-verstappen-crashes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/29068\/","title":{"rendered":"Red Bull reverts to conventional rear wing in Belgium after worrying Max Verstappen crashes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/red-bull-racing\/4\/\" data-custom-text=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Red Bull<\/a> is switching back to its original 2026 Formula 1 rear wing after a brace of worrying offs for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/max-verstappen\/17529\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Max Verstappen<\/a> with its upside-down concept.<\/p>\n<p>Rival team <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/ferrari\/3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ferrari<\/a> was the first squad to roll out what it dubbed a &#8216;Macarena&#8217; rear wing in winter testing, with a main flap that rotated 180 degrees when straight mode was activated, optimising drag levels on the straights.<\/p>\n<p>Red Bull introduced its own version of a rotating rear wing in May&#8217;s Miami Grand Prix, coming up with its own concept with a different mechanism than Ferrari&#8217;s solution.<\/p>\n<p>The rear wing caused early headaches for Red Bull, with Verstappen suffering a heavy crash in Austrian Grand Prix qualifying after the wing failed to close properly. A similar incident happened in the British Grand Prix, where Verstappen spun into the gravel at Stowe.<\/p>\n<p>Red Bull has now reverted to its original, conventional rear wing design it started the season with. &#8220;We&#8217;ll go back on the old one and see when the latest one is ready again to be used,&#8221; Verstappen confirmed on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>   <img decoding=\"async\" draggable=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/max-verstappen-red-bull-racing.jpg\" alt=\"Max Verstappen, Red Bull Racing, George Russell, Mercedes\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" loading=\"lazy\"\/> <\/p>\n<p class=\"photographer\">Photo by: Andy Hone\/ LAT Images via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Motorsport.com understands Red Bull is still keen to use the rotating rear wing as soon as possible. It is working on a number of modifications at its Milton Keynes factory to solve what the Dutchman called a &#8220;dangerous&#8221; problem.<\/p>\n<p>The high-profile incidents have prompted governing body the FIA to take a closer look at the design of both Red Bull&#8217;s and Ferrari&#8217;s rear wing.
