Judy Trinh has the latest. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">OTTAWA \u2014 Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree committed Monday \u201cto get to the bottom\u201d of the arrest of a Canadian in Europe on spying charges. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Belgian federal prosecutor\u2019s office said Saturday that \u201ca Canadian national of Chinese origin\u201d had been arrested on charges of espionage and participation in a criminal organization.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The suspect, who was not named in the office\u2019s statement, worked as an intern at NATO\u2019s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Mons, Belgium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The prosecutor\u2019s office said she came to the attention of SHAPE\u2019s security services, who reported the matter to Belgium\u2019s military intelligence agency.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/P642KEF6MLCPSE4P4HIINAFLEE.jpg\"  width=\"800\" height=\"533\"\/>Two men walk past the NATO logo during the NATO Defence Industry Forum at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
