The resources are made available through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. France has activated this mechanism, which centralises requests for support from member states affected by disasters and offers of aid from other European countries participating in the system. Firefighting aircraft and helicopters from across the continent have been deployed to the affected areas, including in Spain, where fires are also burning.<\/p>\n
The additional resources now offered by Belgium include four water tankers (with a capacity of 10,000 to 12,000 litres), a trailer with a capacity of 28,000 litres, and vehicles ready for deployment with Belgian personnel experienced in operating them: a command vehicle, two pick-up trucks, a minibus, and a lorry. Approximately 24 personnel from the Belgian Civil Protection or fire brigade are prepared to be deployed.<\/p>\n
For the time being, these resources remain on standby, awaiting a request from France, should the offer meet their needs. Minister Quintin has been in regular contact with his French counterpart Laurent Nu\u00f1ez since the start of the fires, his office confirms. “The French can count on these additional Belgian resources if they ask for them,” emphasises the minister.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, it was announced that the Belgian ministry of Defence is providing resources to France, including two Panther fire trucks that have already been transported to the site by helicopter. The deployment of nine water tankers and 29 military personnel is also planned.<\/p>\n
