Authorities collected and documented the gold before transferring it to a secure federal government facility.<\/p>\n<p>Kobe, 18, one of the workers, said he initially believed the coins were ordinary \u20ac1 coins. However, after noticing a piece of gold, he realised the workers had made a significant discovery.<\/p>\n<p>Mario, the project manager, said he had never encountered anything similar during his 33 years in the construction industry.<\/p>\n<p>The East Flanders Public Prosecutor\u2019s Office has launched an investigation to determine the origin and legal ownership of the gold.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt this moment, it is not known where that gold comes from, nor to whom it legally belongs,\u201d prosecutor Hanne Ollevier told People magazine.<\/p>\n<p>The building where the treasure was discovered is owned by CAW Oost-Vlaanderen, a Belgian charity that supports people facing difficult circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>Police have warned members of the public against entering the construction site in search of additional treasure.
