\n Africa\u2019s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has been forced to end his 2026 season early after suffering a stress fracture in the heel bone of his left foot, bringing an otherwise impressive campaign to a premature close.\n <\/p>\n
\n In a statement on Tuesday, Omanyala said the injury, which he sustained two weeks before the Commonwealth Games, will keep him out of his final two races of the season.\n <\/p>\n
\n He, however, looked back on the campaign with pride, having recorded five straight sub-10-second performances, finished third in the Diamond League standings and secured direct qualification for the inaugural Ultimate Championship.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cNot quite the finish we had planned, but there is so much from this season to celebrate and be grateful for.”\n <\/p>\n
\n He also thanked his coach, team, sponsors and partners for their work behind the scenes, belief and support throughout the season, noting that his achievements were made possible by their collective effort.\n <\/p>\n
\n The injury means Omanyala will miss the Brussels Diamond League Final, where he had been expected to chase a slice of Kenyan sprint history by becoming the first Kenyan sprinter to win the prestigious trophy.\n <\/p>\n
\n Omanyala had secured his place in the final after a strong Diamond League campaign, finishing among the eight automatic qualifiers in the men\u2019s 100m standings.\n <\/p>\n
\n The 2022 Commonwealth Games champion was set to face some of the world\u2019s leading sprinters in Brussels before turning his attention to the World Ultimate Championships.\n <\/p>\n
\n Jamaican world champion Oblique Seville and South Africa\u2019s Gift Leotlela topped the standings with 23 points each. Americans Trayvon Bromell and Jordan Anthony were tied with Omanyala, while Kenneth Bednarek had 18 points.\n <\/p>\n
\n Cameroon\u2019s Emmanuel Eseme and South Africa\u2019s Akani Simbine completed the field with 18 and 17 points respectively.\n <\/p>\n
\n The Brussels event would have marked Omanyala\u2019s second appearance in a Diamond League Final.\n <\/p>\n
\n He first made Kenyan sprint history in 2023 when he became the country\u2019s first athlete to qualify for a Diamond League 100m final.\n <\/p>\n
\n At the Prefontaine Classic in Oregon that year, Omanyala finished third in 9.85 seconds. American Christian Coleman won in 9.83, while compatriot Noah Lyles was second in an identical 9.85.\n <\/p>\n
\n Omanyala qualified for the final again last year in Zurich after finishing among the leading sprinters, but a hip and pelvic injury forced him to withdraw.\n <\/p>\n
\n Coleman eventually won the race in 9.97, ahead of Simbine in 9.98 and Jamaica\u2019s Ackeem Blake in 9.99.\n <\/p>\n
\n Omanyala had previously made his desire to win the Diamond League Final clear. \u201cThe Diamond League final trophy is definitely on my target,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n
\n He also described his 2026 campaign as a period of rebuilding his form after an injury-hit spell.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cThis season was a season of restoration and just getting back to the top,\u201d he said.\n <\/p>\n
\n The season also gave Omanyala an opportunity to recover from the disappointment of the Commonwealth Games in July.\n <\/p>\n
\n In Glasgow, Omanyala\u2019s bid to defend his 2022 Commonwealth Games title ended in the semifinals after he finished sixth in his heat in 10.19 seconds.\n <\/p>\n
He had earlier enjoyed a strong season, winning the Cape Milers Continental Tour in 10.19, the Addis Ababa Grand Prix in 9.98 and the Kip Keino Classic in 9.96. He also finished third in Botswana in 9.95.<\/p>\n
In the Diamond League, Omanyala was second in Shanghai in 9.98 before winning in Xiamen in 9.94, his first Diamond League victory in more than two years.
