{"id":3581,"date":"2026-02-26T11:01:05","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T11:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/3581\/"},"modified":"2026-02-26T11:01:05","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T11:01:05","slug":"belgium-to-install-air-defence-system-at-port-of-antwerp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/3581\/","title":{"rendered":"Belgium to install air defence system at Port of Antwerp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>26 February 2026 14:32<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever announced that an air defence system will be installed at the Port of Antwerp, Europe\u2019s second-largest cargo port by throughput.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Bart De Wever said the NASAMS-type air defence system has already been ordered,\u00a0<a style=\"color: rgb(53, 152, 219);\" href=\"https:\/\/caliber.az\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Caliber.Az<\/a> reports via <a style=\"color: rgb(53, 152, 219);\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gva.be\/binnenland\/antwerpse-haven-krijgt-vanaf-2027-eigen-luchtafweer-met-eerste-deel-luchtafweer-bescherm-je-bijna-twee-derde-van-de-haven\/137309502.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Belgian media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The country\u2019s Ministry of Defence reported that the first battery of the air defence system is expected to become operational in 2027.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The system is designed to protect against fighter aircraft, drones, and other short-range aerial threats.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Belgium recorded numerous drone incidents last year, leading to temporary closures of airports and a military airbase.
