{"id":36284,"date":"2026-09-05T02:45:20","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T02:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/36284\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T02:45:20","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T02:45:20","slug":"australias-cameron-myers-beats-olympic-champions-to-win-diamond-league-final","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/36284\/","title":{"rendered":"Australia&#8217;s Cameron Myers beats Olympic champions to win Diamond League Final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Australia&#8217;s Cameon Myers has recorded the most significant win of his young career by taking out the men&#8217;s 1,500 metres at the Diamond League Final in Brussels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Myers became only the eighth Australian to win a Diamond League Final title when he clocked a time of three minutes and 30.14 seconds at the King Baudouin Stadium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The 20-year-old beat home a stacked field featuring the two most recent Olympic champions in the event, the USA&#8217;s Cole Hocker and Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;I wouldn&#8217;t say this victory comes as a surprise to me,&#8221; Myers said after the race.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It&#8217;s more a relief to finally showcase what I&#8217;ve been building toward over the last couple of years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">&#8220;It feels surreal, even though I always believed I had it in me. (Getty Images: Tim Clayton)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Myers timed his final sprint in the home straight to perfection, narrowly edging out Kenyan teenager Phanuel Koech (3:30.18) and American Ethan Strand (3:30.50).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Ingebrigtsen, who was the Tokyo Olympic gold medallist, posted a time of 3:30.52 to finish in fourth place, with Hocker seventh in 3:30.80.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Coached by Dick Telford, Myers is the best Australian prospect in the men&#8217;s 1,500m since 1960 Olympic champion Herb Elliott.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The Brussels victory is the latest chapter in the Canberran&#8217;s stellar season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Myers set a national record of 3:28.00 in <a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-06-29\/cameron-myers-sarah-billings-national-records-diamond-league\/106854336\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106854336\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">winning the 1,500m at the Paris Diamond League meet in June<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">The time is the second-fastest run in the world this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\"><a class=\"Link_link__kR0xA Link_link__5eL5m ScreenReaderOnly_srLinkHint__OysWz Link_showVisited__C1Fea Link_showFocus__ALyv2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-07-05\/cameron-myers-blitzes-the-mile-at-eugene-diamond-meet\/106881848\" data-component=\"Link\" data-uri=\"coremedia:\/\/article\/106881848\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Myers won the mile (3:46.06) at another Diamond League meet, Eugene&#8217;s Prefontaine Classic<\/a>, in July and finished second to Scottish world-record holder Josh Kerr in the same event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph___QITb\">Less than a week ago, Myers triumphed in the 1,500m (3:30.96) at Berlin&#8217;s prestigious ISTAF meet.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Kurtis Marschall celebrates during men's pole vault at Diamond League Final.\" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/b6f49222da9eb4afef0e0364e9f4b9b8.jpeg\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">Kurtis Marschall finished third in the men&#8217;s pole vault.
