New York – The Government of Belgium announced a multiannual contribution of EUR 30 million for the period 2025\u20132028 to UNDP\u2019s core resources, a flexible form of funding that enables the organization to respond rapidly to crises and plan for long-term development. With this contribution, Belgium confirmed its continued commitment as one of UNDP\u2019s top 20 core donors.<\/p>\n
In its official letter to UNDP, Belgium\u2019s Federal Public Service of Foreign Affairs states that \u201cBelgium acknowledges that core voluntary contributions are indispensable for enabling UNDP to carry out its mandate effectively and flexibly, safeguard its normative functions, and contribute to the 2030 Agenda in a coherent, coordinated, and sustainable manner.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Overlapping waves of change, unfolding at unprecedented speed, are testing the world\u2019s resilience and capacity to adapt. Economic, political, environmental, social, and technological trends intersect and compound one another. After 30 years of progress, human development is fragile and losing momentum, as outlined by the\u00a02025 Human Development Report<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n Belgium\u2019s multiannual financial contribution comes at a pivotal moment of global urgency. It will also help drive the implementation of UNDP\u2019s new\u00a0Strategic Plan 2026\u20132029<\/a>, which focuses on advancing human development through effective governance, strengthened crisis resilience, and action on planetary pressures.<\/p>\n Belgium\u2019s long-standing partnership with UNDP has been vital in helping the world\u2019s poorest countries battle poverty and inequality, build resilience to shocks and crises, strengthen transparent reporting on national climate plans through the\u00a0Climate Promise<\/a>, and tackle gender-based violence.\u00a0<\/p>\n In recent years, Belgium\u2019s support has allowed UNDP to rebuild Ukraine\u2019s energy infrastructure and demine its territory, to provide emergency support in Gaza\u2019s healthcare and solid waste sector, and to help conserve Burundi\u2019s largest and most biodiverse national parks.<\/p>\n This renewed core funding ensures that Belgium\u2019s partnership with UNDP remains instrumental in driving progress across fragile and least developed countries and in supporting innovative solutions for sustainable development.\u00a0<\/p>\n
