Yet in 1987, a group of young Belgium designers managed to do just that. As a member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/tag\/antwerp\/\" id=\"auto-tag_antwerp\" data-tag=\"antwerp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Antwerp<\/a> Six, who will all be honored with a 40-year retrospective at MoMu-Fashion Museum <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/fashion-news\/designer-luxury\/marina-yee-dead-antwerp-six-obit-1238332914\/\" id=\"related_article_link_antwerp\" data-tag=\"antwerp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Antwerp<\/a> starting March 28, <a href=\"https:\/\/wwd.com\/tag\/ann-demeulemeester\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ann-demeulemeester\" data-tag=\"ann-demeulemeester\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ann Demeulemeester<\/a> once told WWD that she never planned her brand more than six months ahead, choosing instead to focus on the present. That philosophy shaped the unmistakable singularity that defined her work for more than three decades, until she departed in 2013, via a handwritten letter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThis March 1997 cover perfectly illustrates her idiosyncratic take on tailoring, blending her signature slouched silhouette in a half-straight, half-cinched construction that blurred the lines between masculine and feminine aesthetics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Defining one\u2019s singular vision in fashion\u2019s chaotic landscape is no easy feat.
