Britain is the undisputed world heavyweight of Spanish tourism with a massive lead over other countries, according to official figures released this week. An estimated 2.2 million British tourists came to Spain in June 2026, compared to just one million Germans, who are in second place, followed by France (drop of 1.7 percent) and the United States (increase of 12 percent).
German tourism to Spain appears to be in decline with a 5.9 fall in June which will cause concern in the Balearics because the German market is key to Mallorcan tourism. British tourism to Spain rose by almost seven percent in June.
The figures also reveal that there was a massive increase in tourism from the United States, as a result of all the additional flights. Mallorca now has direct links with New York. U.S. tourism to Spain increased by 12 percent, also underlining the fact that it was unaffected by the Iran war.
The Balearic accounted for almost 25 percent of all foreign visitors in June, an imcrease of 0.6 percent on June 2025. There was a big increase in tourism to Andalucia while tourism to the Canary Islands fell by 4.5 percent.
Although no official visitor figures for this season exist for the Balearics so far it appeaes that the island is on course for a similar season as the one in 2025. There will be concern again about the German market. Mallorcan hoteliers had already warned of “problems” with the German market but at the same time forecast an increase in Britsh tourism.
