Former Spurs striker Troy Parrott has joined Real Betis with the north London side in for a transfer boost

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Troy Parrott has been branded the “saviour” of Real Betis after the La Liga club struck a deal with AZ Alkmaar to bring the forward to Spain. The Irish forward, 24, left Spurs for AZ in 2024 after six years in north London.
The Dutch side are set to pocket £17.1million for Parrott after two seasons in Alkmaar, in which Parrott scored 51 goals and provided 17 assists in 97 appearances. His move means Spurs will also get a small slice of the fee, around £3.4m, thanks to a 20 per cent sell-on clause inserted into the deal to take the player from Spurs to the Netherlands two years ago.
The mood around Betis is joyous. Spanish outlet SPORT has branded Parrott a “saviour” and the player that the club have been “searching for in vain for 10 years”.

The outlet says Parrott’s arrival will “address the position that has been their biggest area of weakness in recent years”. The publication also claimed the “centre-forward has always been the most sought-after player in football.”
Sport puts Parrott in esteemed company. They added: “There are plenty of wingers who can dribble, ‘false nines’ who drop deep to receive the ball and help create chances, and attacking midfielders with a knack for scoring, but centre-forwards like Hugo Sánchez, Luis Suárez, [Erling] Haaland or [Robert] Lewandowski are not common. Parrott now embodies the club’s hopes and long-held desire to secure a player who is sorely needed in modern football.”

In what will be a huge compliment to the former Spurs ace, the outlet goes on to state that Parrott has the hallmarks to carry on the legacies of Betis icons Ricardo Oliveira and Jorge Molina.
Oliveira joined Betis in 2004 and had two spells with the club after he returned in 2009. He played a pivotal role in the club’s finest season in the last 50 years, scoring 22 league goals as they secured a fourth-place finish and Champions League football. He also played a decisive part in their Copa del Rey triumph of 2004. Molina joined Betis in 2010 and scored 77 goals.

Spurs can now add another £3.4m to their transfer kitty this summer thanks to Parrott’s sale. Spurs sold the Republic of Ireland international, in what football.london revealed, was a £6.7million deal.

Any extra income will be welcome for Spurs. The club have held talks with Manchester City over a double swoop for attackers Savinho and Omar Marmoush, reportedly worth as much as £150m, with Roberto De Zerbi making it clear that he wants new additions for his front line.
