Firefighters and police attended the scene in Trafford with traffic temporarily halted

Firefighters were scrambled to the M60 this evening after a car erupted into flames.
It happened on the clockwise stretch of the motorway near junction seven for Sale Water Park.
Traffic heading towards the Trafford Centre was temporarily halted after a car, which had pulled onto the hard shoulder, caught light.

Pictures and video from the scene showed bright orange flames lapping up the side of the vehicle, with black smoke sent billowing across the nearby area.
Two fire engines attended, along with police. Crews donned breathing apparatus as they extinguished the blaze.
Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 4.30pm this afternoon (Sunday 23rd August), two fire engines from Wythenshawe and Eccles fire station were called to reports of a vehicle fire on the M60 between junction six and seven.
“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
“Firefighters were in attendance for around twenty-five minutes.”
