Donald Trump has taken aim at the Sussexes
Donald Trump has said he is “happy” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have returned to the UK.
Speaking to reporters this evening, the President said he was “not a fan” of the pair.
Trump also said he would “not have taken them back” if he were in the Royal Family, and boasted of his “really good” relationship with Queen Elizabeth and King Charles – who he believes were “disrespected” by the Sussexes.
Speaking at the White House this evening, Trump said: “I’m happy about it [Meghan and Harry returning to the UK]. I was not a fan.
“I had a very good relationship with the Queen. Really good. I got to know her very well… A really good relationship with King Charles. I knew him as Prince Charles and King Charles. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s a great, great guy.

“And I thought they [Meghan and Harry] treated the Royal Family with great disrespect. I didn’t like it.
“I didn’t like the way she acted. I thought she was terribly disrespectful to the Queen, to King Charles. I wouldn’t have taken them back. If I were in the royal family I would not have taken him back.”
This is far from the first time Trump has criticised the Sussexes.
When Harry and Meghan were in the midst of moving to the US, speculation was mounting over who would pay for their security. Trump was adamant it would not be the US government, posting in March 2020: “They must pay!”
After losing the 2020 election, Trump hit out at Harry in several interviews. He told Nigel Farage in 2021 that Harry’s marriage had “ruined his relationship with his family” and that it “hurts the Queen”.

While in 2022, he told Piers Morgan: “Harry is whipped like no person I think I’ve ever seen,” and added Meghan would likely leave him “when she decides that she likes some other guy better”.
In 2024, Harry found himself in the centre of a row over his visa after admitting to having used recreational drugs in his memoir Spare. Trump clarified he would not be taking action against Harry, but said that he had “enough problems with his wife”.
Harry and Meghan returned to the UK last month with their children following six years living in the US.
Archie, seven, and five-year-old Lili have been enrolled in British schools, ready to start this month. The Sussexes will remain as non-working royals.
