Tube workers are set to walk out in a dispute over the introduction of a new four-day working week.

Strike action is planned after London Underground moved forward with the changes despite concerns from staff.

The RMT union said most train operators rejected the condensed week in e-referendums.

Concerns were raised about fatigue, longer shift lengths, safety and the overall impact on work-life balance.

Eddie Dempsey, RMT general secretary, said: “London Underground is trying to force through major changes to working patterns that have already been rejected by our members.

“We are clear that these proposals raise serious concerns around fatigue, safety and work-life balance.

“Despite our best efforts over many months, no satisfactory outcome has been reached so we have no choice but to call strike dates.”

Here are the strike dates

RMT members are set to take strike action on the following dates:

From 12pm on April 21 to 11.59am on April 22

From 12pm on April 23 to 11.59am on April 24

If a negotiated settlement is not reached, further strikes are planned in May.

London Underground workers were also due to strike in March, but those dates were called off following talks with London Underground management.

RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said: “We have forced management into a position where they are now willing to seriously engage with the issues our members want addressing.

“Further talks will take place and the dispute remains live.”

Talks between RMT and London Underground management are expected to continue ahead of the April strike dates.

Union officials argue the changes are being implemented without proper agreement and raise significant safety concerns.
