Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a woman was found dead in a home.

Police were called to Khartoum Square in Whitfield, near Dover, yesterday shortly before 3.30pm to a woman being treated by paramedics.

Patrols attended the scene where the alleged victim, who was in her 60s, was confirmed deceased. Police say her next of kin have been informed.

Today, the force stated a 32-year-old local man, who was known to the woman, was arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into custody.

Meanwhile, a cordon remains at the property while inquiries into the incident are underway.

Paying tribute to the suspected victim, a neighbour said: “She was a very lovely, beautiful, Christian woman.

“She kept herself to herself. I used to see her walk down all the time.

“She was quiet. She was a peaceful woman.”

Another resident described the area as “pretty chilled”.

“I have never had drama and as long as you keep to yourself you’re fine,” she said.

“I have lived here 20-odd years, There were forensics, police and critical care here yesterday.

“We’re neighbours with her but we didn’t chat.

“We were polite to them and used to say, ‘Hi are you alright?’”

Another resident described the street as a “lovely, quiet area”.

“You saw the woman every now and again but I haven’t seen her for a while,” they added.

“She said hello and waved but that was about it. Everyone looks out for everyone here.

“My kids know they can knock on anyone’s door and someone will help them.”
