Police have issued an update after a serious crash that left a man fighting for his life. Essex Police has confirmed in the latest update on the incident that officers have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with the crash.
Police were called to Crowstone Road, Westcliff, at around 7.30am on Thursday, April 16. It had been reported that a white Mercedes C Class car, with the registration YD14 OHT, had been involved in a collision with a man. The car had left the area after the incident.
The man, who is in his 40s, received treatment from members of the public, officers, and ambulance service colleagues. He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
The Mercedes was later found abandoned in Britannia Road. It has been recovered and forensically examined. The car had been stolen from an address in Sutton Road, Southend, during the early hours of the morning, at around 1am.
On Friday, April 17, a 26-year-old man of no fixed abode was located in Southend. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.
Essex Police is asking for anyone with information about the movement of the white Mercedes to come forward. Detectives are continuing to investigate several enquiries around Westcliff and the wide Southend area including CCTV enquiries, forensic examinations, and house to house visits.
