A murder investigation has been launched after a beloved grandfather was found dead in a river.
Police raced to Victoria Park in Leamington Spa on Wednesday following reports of a man in a river shortly before 8am. The man in his 50s, who has now been named as Adam Lucas, was declared dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination on Thursday established that he died from injuries consistent with an assault. Warwickshire Police launched a murder investigation as a result, and urged anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area from late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning to contact officers.

His family said: “We’re all shocked and heartbroken to hear the sad news of the sudden passing of our beloved Adam. He was an amazing and loved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin. We kindly ask that he is kept in your thoughts and prayers while we try to navigate this as a family.”
Detective Inspector Gareth Unett said: “I understand this will be concerning for the local community, but I’d like to reassure them we have a team of detectives working to establish the full circumstances that led to the man’s death.
“We’re carrying out a number of enquiries including checking CCTV and will have officers in and around the park providing reassurance. If you have questions, please speak to them.
“We’d ask anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area from late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning to come forward and share what they know.
“Finally, I’d ask people not to speculate online as this can cause unnecessary distress to the family and may impact our investigation.”
