A man in his 60s has been arrested following an attempted armed robbery at a premises in Co Tyrone on Friday night.

Police received a report that a man armed with a gun had entered a shop on Brookmount Road in Omagh at around 10:45 pm, threatened staff and demanded the contents of the till.

The man fled the scene before he could complete the robbery.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police in Omagh have made an arrest following an attempted robbery at a business in Omagh yesterday evening, Friday 25th April.

“Shortly after 10.45pm, a masked man, armed with a gun, entered the shop in the Brookmount Road area and threatened staff before demanding that they hand over the contents of the till.

“The man then made off before completing the robbery.

“Officers attended and arrested a man in his 60s on suspicion of attempted robbery and having a firearm or imitation firearm whilst committing and offence. He remains in police custody at this time.

“Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or anyone with CCTV or other footage that could assist with enquiries, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1908 24/04/26.
