The relatives of a young boy battling for his life following a serious road traffic collision have appealed for prayers as he fights to recover. The weekend collision has already claimed the life of a young teenager.

Christopher Faulkner, aged 10, remains in a critical state after a horror collision in Co Antrim. Communities across Limerick and Tipperary, where the young boy is from, have united to support his family in the wake of the tragedy. The youngster is a cousin of Limerick mother Scarlett Faulkner, who passed away earlier this month at CUH following a brutal attack. Her brother Jason Faulkner died mere days following her funeral.

Emergency crews responded to the incident on the Belfast Road, which happened shortly before 8 am on Sunday, 26 April. The collision involved a black Volkswagen Golf and a silver Volkswagen Passat. The Golf’s driver has subsequently been detained by the PSNI on several driving-related charges.

A teenage passenger in the Passat, identified locally as 16-year-old Callum Hutchinson from Co Tipperary, tragically died at the scene, while Christopher was transported to hospital, where his condition remains critical.

A prayer vigil has been arranged this evening at St Lelia’s Church in Limerick to offer prayers for Christopher’s recovery and for Callum’s soul. A substantial turnout is anticipated to show solidarity with both families and the broader Traveller community during this challenging period. The vigil will take place at 6.30 pm, reports Cork Beo.

Loved ones of the Faulkner family have taken to social media in their droves, appealing for prayers and support following such a tragic accident. One person described the family as being “just crushed.”

She shared: “The Faulkner family are just crushed and broken. Please let Christopher and the other lads involved in this horrific crash survive their injuries, and may the other young lad, Callum, rest in peace. My sincere condolences to this poor family also.”

Another post urged people to pray for the Faulkner family: “Please everybody pray and share this around with everybody, the more prayers the better, he really needs them.”

A third person wrote: “This poor child was involved in that same accident where his friend lost his life and this child is very very sick in hospital so can everyone please keep him in your prayers and share this to any prayer groups or anyone that you think can pray for him his name is Christopher Faulkner may Jesus put his loving arms around him and bring him home safe to his mummy and daddy.”
