The UK will glow in glorious 23C sunshine this weekend for the bank holiday weekend, it’s been claimed.
Thousands were expected to flock to the Britain’s beaches over the weekend, and a meteorologist has urged them to “take advantage” of Saturday’s toasty temperatures. The southeast of England was forecast to have the warmest weather, with possible thunderstorms for the southwest.
The drizzle was expected to continue into Monday for Cornwall and Devon, with highs of low-teens Celsius. But, for the rest of the UK, the outlook was dry with the mercury touching 18C at the warmest part of the day.
“The earliest outlook for the Bank Holiday Monday suggests bog standard seasonal average temperatures,” said British Weather Services’ senior meteorologist, Jim Dale. He told the Mirror: “Moderate to heavy rain is forecast to edge into the west, especially southwest England and Wales.

“All other areas are expected to be dry with increasingly hazy sunshine. One to be watched for the timing of that rain band.
“The weekend itself, Saturday could see sunny spells with potentially heavy showers and rather humid. Sunday will see fewer – if any – showers, with plenty of sunshine. Temperature wise, it’ll be warmest in the South-East, about 21C to 23C on Saturday, but despite the sunshine, notably cooler on the Sunday.”

Mr Dale confirmed that Saturday would likely be the warmest day of the long weekend. “Thankfully” there wouldn’t be much wind either, he said – making it the perfect day to head to the beach.
He said: “Essentially, take advantage of the dry weather in between the showers, especially on Saturday.”
As we head further into the weekend, it’ll be a chillier end to the bank holiday for northern regions, he said. Temperatures were forecast to reach just 11C in Scotland and northern England, while between 17C and 18C was expected in the south.
The Met Office said there would be sunny intervals over the long week, although the weather was expected to become increasingly changeable. Bursts of showers and thunderstorms were forecast in the southwest, with even some rainy intervals in the north.

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, Tom Crabtree said: “By Friday, conditions are expected to become more unsettled, with rain and showers spreading in from the southwest, some of which could be heavy and possibly thundery.
“Ahead of this, it will feel warm and humid in parts of England on Friday, with temperatures potentially reaching 24C in central and southern areas. Into the Bank Holiday weekend, the weather looks more changeable, with showers at times – particularly in the north – but also some sunnier intervals.”
