The A487 was closed following a motorbike crash. The incident took place between Tal-Y-Bont and Taliesin, north of Aberystwyth.

The air ambulance was called to the scene, before flying to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Dyfed-Powys Police said: “The road is currently closed due to road traffic collision. Please avoid the area and find alternative routes for your journey.”

Later, the road remained closed, however police confirmed this was due to a separate “bomb squad” incident.

A spokesperson said: “The Explosive Ordnance Disposal are undertaking a controlled explosion at Leri Valley Mine after items were located that may contain explosive materials.

“Emergency serviced including police and fire are supporting the operation to make the items safe.

“Safety measures have been taken including the road closure, a 150m cordon and the use of sandbags as advised by EOD specialists.

“Please avoid the area until 18:00hrs.”
