A woman in her 20s has died following a collision involving a lorry and a cyclist in south London, police have said. Emergency services were called to Kennington Park Road, SE11, at 10.56am on Wednesday, 29 April, following reports of a serious crash involving a lorry and a cyclist.

Officers from the Met Police, the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended the scene. The cyclist was treated by paramedics but died shortly after emergency crews arrived. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The lorry driver, a man in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

Detective Sergeant James Moody, from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “Our thoughts remain with the young woman’s loved ones at this incredibly distressing time.

“Though we have made an arrest it is vital we try to build up a full picture of this incident. We are urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any relevant information to come forward and speak to police – particularly anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage.”

Anyone with information or footage that could assist police has been asked to call 101 quoting CAD 2693/29APR.

The MP for the Vauxhall area Florence Eshalom said: ” Very sad to hear about a fatal road traffic accident on Kennington Park Road. My thoughts & prayers to the victims family. Thank you to our emergency services for their response. Please try &avoid the area as the road is still closed off.”
