A woman was allegedly raped in a Harrow park on Friday (May 1).
The Metropolitan Police was called around 5pm the next day (Saturday, May 2) with a report that a woman was raped in Byron Park.
The alleged victim is now being supported by specialist officers.
40-year-old Anojan Ganesalingham, who is homeless, was arrested in Harrow on suspicion of rape. He was charged with two counts of rape this morning (Monday, May 4).
Detective Inspector Mitesh Mulji, of the Met’s North West Command Unit, said: “We are committed to tackling the scourge of sexual violence against women and girls.
Where to get help after a sexual offence
If you’ve been sexually assaulted it’s important to remember that it was not your fault. Sexual violence is a crime, no matter who commits it or where it happens. Don’t be afraid to get help.
If you have been a victim of sexual assault or rape or you have information about an offender, you can contact police on 101 or 999 in an emergency – there are specially trained officers who will listen and investigate where needed.
Further information, including details of agencies and charities that can offer support can be found on the Met Police website.
“This was an isolated incident, but we are aware of the concern that it will cause in our local community.
“The woman who bravely reported this incident to us is being supported by specialist officers.
“We are increasing patrols in Byron Park and the surrounding area in response to this incident, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak to our officers.”
