Drivers in Tunbridge Wells have been told to expect delays on the A26 London Road while a gas leak is being investigated. Traffic lights have been in operation near the Meadow Road junction in Southborough since Tuesday (May 5).
The A26 is the main route from Tunbridge Wells town centre to Southborough, and the A21 or to Tonbridge. It is also busy due to the number of schools in and around the road.
A check of live traffic information at the time of writing, showed heavy delays in both directions, particularly heading south between Pennington Road and Yew Tree Road. Bradley Barlow, spokesperson for gas distribution company SGN, said: “We’re currently investigating the source of a gas leak at the junction of Meadow Road and St Andrews Park Road.
“Our engineers are working 7am to 7pm, including weekends, to find and repair the source of the leak. For everyone’s safety around our work area, temporary traffic lights are in place, which are being manually controlled from 7am to 7pm.
