Sky Sports will remain the exclusive live broadcaster of Formula 1 in the United Kingdom until at least the end of 2034 after announcing a contract extension.
Sky Sports picked up the UK TV rights for F1 starting in 2012, establishing its own dedicated channel for the sport. It took on exclusive rights to show races live from 2019, and had an agreement in place running until the end of 2029.
This deal has now been extended by a further five years, with F1 and Sky Sports announcing on Wednesday that the contract would now run until the end of the 2034 season.
Sky Sports has long stood one of F1’s most lucrative TV partners. The Daily Mail reported on Wednesday that the new terms of the contract are worth in the region of £200million ($272m) per season.
F1 also confirmed that race weekend highlights and live coverage of the British Grand Prix would continue to be made available free-to-air. These rights are currently held by Channel 4 through to the end of 2026.
As part of the announcement, F1 also confirmed that Sky Italia will continue as the sport’s broadcaster in Italy through to the end of 2032.
“Sky has always been a dedicated, trusted, and passionate partner since we began our relationship many years ago,” F1 CEO and president Stefano Domenicali said in a statement.
“Their world leading approach to live broadcasting, content creation, and behind-the-scenes analysis led by a truly amazing group of on-screen talent has made the difference in continuing to grow our sport in the UK, Ireland, and Italy and I am delighted we will be taking our partnership into the next decade.”
Sky Sports’ UK coverage is also currently carried by Apple TV as part of its F1 broadcast deal in the United States, which started in 2026 and is worth in the region of $150m per year. Viewers watching F1 on Apple TV have the option to either watch Sky or F1 TV’s in-house broadcast and commentary.
“We’re proud of the role we’ve played in supporting the sport’s growth through world-class storytelling, innovation and long-term investment,” said Dana Strong, the group CEO of Sky.
“This new agreement secures Sky as the home of Formula 1 for years to come, as the sport enters an exciting era with more British talent on the grid and rising stars like Kimi Antonelli. I want to thank Stefano and the F1 team for our continued partnership, which we’re excited to build on in the years ahead.”
