Commuters across Southern England are facing major travel disruption today due to an issue with a radio communications system affecting communication between trains and signalers.
South Western Railway (SWR), Southern, Thameslink, CrossCountry, Gatwick Express and London Overground services are impacted. Travel disruption is expected to continue until the end of the day as operations and engineering teams work with signallers to try and find a solution.
SWR wrote on its website: “Due to issues with communication systems at London Waterloo, all lines are disrupted. Train services running to and from this station may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day. We have been made aware of an issue that is affecting communications between trains and signallers. This is affecting trains across the SWR network. Significant disruption across all routes.”
It added: “Trains are operating under signaller instructions while teams investigate. Our operations and engineering teams are working with signallers to find and fix the fault… We do not have an ETA yet for when signalling will be back to normal.”
