Some residents have reported water ‘pouring into’ their homes

Further heavy rain is expected after parts of Greater Manchester were hit by a dramatic thunderstorm this afternoon (Saturday).

Many areas saw booming cracks of thunder and flashes of lightning before a short torrential downpour. “WOW. KABOOM,” said local forecaster Oldham Weather in a post on X.

Others responded by sharing videos of the conditions which suddenly took over.

One person said: “Wow careful what you wish for! That lightning was only a mile away. So loud. I know I said I needed rain, but that was so heavy it has poured INTO the house upstairs & down through the window lintels! Nothing I could do to stop it.”

More raiin is forecast to fall for the rest of the day by the Met Office.

Light showers are expected until around 3pm when some there is a high chance of some heavier downpours. There could remain some drizzle around until around 7pm when the wet weather is expected to clear up.

It is expected to be a dry and sunny start to Sunday and remain dry, if a little overcast, with temperatures reaching 12C. It is a similar picture on Monday and Tuesday with further rain not likely until Wednesday.
