Bishop Martin Anwel Mtumbuka of Malawi’s Catholic Diocese of Karonga and Archbishop Charles Phillip Richard Moth of the Catholic Archdiocese of Westminster in the United Kingdom (UK) are exploring a possible partnership between Catholic universities in their respective countries alongside renewed efforts to strengthen ties between their Dioceses.

In a communiqué issued on Monday, May 11, Karonga Diocese said the two Catholic Church leaders discussed “the possibility of collaboration between St. Mary’s University and the Catholic University of Malawi (CUNIMA)” during their meeting in the UK Metropolitan See.

According to the communiqué, Archbishop Moth “expressed full support for the partnership” between the two Catholic institutions of higher learning.

“The Archbishop asked Bishop Mtumbuka to discuss further with the university’s Vice Chancellor the possible areas of collaboration,” the communiqué reads in part, referring to the UK Catholic Church leader, who chairs St. Mary’s University Council and is set to become Chancellor of the London-based institution of higher learning.

Established by the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) in 2004, the Catholic University of Malawi is dedicated to providing holistic education through teaching, research, and community service.
