A joint venture between Fastned and Places for London has secured planning approval for what is set to become London’s largest ultra-rapid electric vehicle charging hub in Ealing.
The Hanger Lane site, located off the North Circular (A406), will feature 36 ultra-rapid 400kW charging bays and is expected to open early next year.
The companies said the site will support hundreds of drivers daily and help improve charging access for fleets, vans, taxis and private hire vehicles operating in and around London.
Fastned and Places for London said the wider partnership aims to deliver 25 charging sites across London by 2030, including locations at Hatton Cross, Canning Town, Tottenham Hale and East Finchley.
Vans and small trucks also supported
Fastned said the site has been designed to accommodate vehicles of different sizes, including vans and smaller trucks, addressing challenges faced by operators without access to depot or home charging.
The hub will include a retail area, restroom facilities, benches and a playground, while Fastned’s solar canopies will provide weather protection alongside lighting and CCTV coverage.
Mete Coban, London deputy mayor for environment and energy, said: “This new, rapid charging hub will support hundreds of Londoners who have already made the transition to EVs.
“There are more than 27,900 public electric vehicle charge points in London – over a third of the UK’s total charging network – and, working with partners like Fastned, we can continue to grow our network and support many more Londoners to switch to cleaner, greener vehicles.”

Supporting electric commercial fleets
The development is also expected to support businesses operating from the nearby Park Royal industrial estate as commercial fleets continue transitioning to EVs.

Fastned and Places for London added that the Hanger Lane hub will include wheelchair-accessible charging bays, suspended cable systems and wider parking spaces to improve accessibility for drivers.
