An entire London Underground line will be closed over the Easter weekend, Transport for London has confirmed. The Hammersmith & City line is not running from Good Friday (April 3) until Easter Monday (April 6) due to track work.

Passengers are encouraged to use alternative Tube or rail services, or make use of local and replacement bus routes. Elsewhere, a programme of Network Rail maintenance is affecting sections of the Bakerloo and Lioness lines in North and West London.

The works are part of a £400m project to boost reliability on the West Coast Main Line, including a £22.2m investment in Willesden, Wembley and Harrow & Wealdstone. The stations will receive new tracks, overhead power equipment, and platform upgrades, respectively. Here’s everything you need to know:

London train passengers are also facing major disruption this Easter amid a six-day shutdown at Euston station. Engineering work means no intercity services will run between the busy interchange and Milton Keynes from Good Friday to Wednesday, April 8.

Jake Kelly, Network Rail regional director for North West and Central, said: “We know how important Bank Holidays are – particularly at Easter, when families and friends come together – and that’s why we work hard to keep as much of the network open as possible while carrying out these vital upgrades.

“However, Bank Holidays are also among the least busy times on the railway, and the four-day period at Easter gives us a valuable opportunity to complete projects that simply can’t be delivered during a normal weekend. This ensures we maximise the time our teams are out working on the tracks.”

Services between Scotland, the north-west of England, the west Midlands and London will terminate at Milton Keynes Central. Rail replacement buses are running between Milton Keynes Central and Bedford or Potters Bar, where passengers can catch a train to Central London.

London Northwestern Railway is accepting tickets on Thameslink and East Midlands Railway services. Operator Avanti expects trains to be fuller than usual today (April 2) and has lifted peak restrictions.
