Six areas of the UK are set to be hit by heavy rain and thunder on Tuesday as the Met Office warns of an unsettled start to June. The forecaster has said the south and east of the country will be affected by wet and stormy conditions, which will encompass England, Wales and Scotland.
Heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds could develop throughout the day as low pressure continues to dominate the UK’s weather pattern. The wet weather follows a rainy start to the week for many areas and is expected to bring further downpours in places. Southern and eastern regions are forecast to see some of the most unsettled conditions, while rain is also expected to linger across parts of Scotland.
The Met Office has warned of heavy showers and thunder across parts of the south and east, with gusty conditions also possible. Some showers could be accompanied by hail and thunder, although there will also be sunny spells in places. Temperatures are expected to remain around average for the time of year despite the unsettled outlook.

Despite the threat of thunderstorms, there will be some brighter weather mixed in with the showers. Forecasters say many areas will enjoy sunny intervals during the day, particularly later in western parts of the UK.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid to high teens in many regions, while some places could climb into the low 20s.
The Met Office’s forecast for Tuesday states: “Heavy showers and thunder across the south and east, where it can be gusty. Drier spells developing in the west later with some sunnier spells. Temperatures around average for June.”
However, the unsettled spell is not expected to end there.
Mr Burkill said further rain is likely to arrive from the west later on Tuesday night and into Wednesday, bringing another round of wet weather for some parts of the country.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said a band of rain moving across the UK at the start of the week would continue to influence conditions into Tuesday.
Mr Burkill said: ” “At the moment, there’s low pressure to the northwest of the UK. This is helping drive a weather system across the country.
“That rain is going to linger and actually push into more northern parts of Scotland through the day. That could be quite heavy, could be some thunder mixed in with that.”
Elsewhere, the meteorologist warned that many areas could see heavy showers develop, even if they do not last all day.
He said: “It is going to be quite a showery day. So showers, they’re hit and miss.
So not everywhere will necessarily get them, but do be prepared because there could be some hefty downpours mixed in with them, some rumbles of thunder, a bit of hail, that kind of thing.”
