A woman in her 20s is in critical condition in hospital

A woman is fighting for her life in hospital after being stabbed in Oldham, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has confirmed this afternoon (March 28). A large cordon remains in place, blocking off parts of Spring Street, Raper Street and Greenwood Street in Oldham.

Crime Scene Investigation units were at the scene shortly after 2pm, as well as sniffer dogs, and several GMP vehicles. According to the force, the suspect remains at large.

It comes after officers were called to Greenwood Street, Greenacres, Oldham, last night (Friday, March 27) at 10.40pm after receiving reports of an assault. Concerned neighbours reported seeing the police tape go up shortly afterwards.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, others said they didn’t realise anything was amiss until waking up this morning to discover the cordon.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers responded to an incident on Greenwood Street in Oldham following reports of an assault yesterday evening (March 27). We attended the address at around 10.40pm and officers located a woman aged in her 20s with serious injuries, consistent with a stabbing.

“She is currently in hospital being treated and remains in critical condition. No arrests have been made at this time.”

Residents in the area have been reassured that officers are ‘exhausting all lines of enquiry’ to locate the suspect.

A statement from Chief Inspector Ian Partington reads: “I would like to reassure the community that incidents of this nature are taken extremely seriously and our officers are currently exhausting all lines of enquiry to locate the suspect.

“A scene remains in place and our officers have worked through the night to conduct their investigation.”
