Activists pass through Trafalgar Square and Whitehall

Activists are processing past Trafalgar Square and down Whitehall as part of the Pride in London march.

Spectators cheered as floats full of people dancing and speakers playing music drove through central London.

Many people watching the parade were wearing rainbow colours and carried Pride flags amid chants of “Happy Pride”.

Companies that have sponsored floats at the parade include Lidl, Tesco and Ikea, with the Swedish furniture brand’s float carrying the message: “Love doesn’t require instructions”.

London-based football teams including Arsenal, West Ham and Crystal Palace also had floats in the parade.

LGBTQ+ activist accuses Fifa of ‘doing nothing’ about countries banning gay footballers at World Cup

Activist Peter Tatchell has said Fifa is “doing nothing” about 11 countries banning gay footballers at the World Cup.

Mr Tatchell was among those at the front of the Pride in London march and carried a banner which said: “World Cup – 11 countries ban gay footballers – shame!”

The activist said: “We’re marching in London Pride today to highlight the fact that at the World Cup, which is ongoing right now, 11 countries ban gay footballers from their team – that’s against Fifa rules, but Fifa is doing nothing.”

Speaking at the front of the march, he added: “This year’s Pride is as important as ever.

“Particularly now that Reform councils across the country are banning Pride flags … wanting to remove books from shelves.

“That is very dangerous, very threatening to all of us.”

Mexican Embassy representatives take part in London Pride

The Mexican Embassy has taken part in the Pride in London parade with a colourful banner and display.

The embassy said on social media: “The Embassy of Mexico in the United Kingdom participated in this celebration recognizing diversity, inclusion, and equality, reaffirming our country’s commitment to defending the human rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals.

“Mexico marches with pride, facing the world and true to who we are: a diverse, pluralistic nation committed to building fairer and more inclusive societies.

“We continue to celebrate pride as an expression of freedom, dignity, and the right of all people to be who they are.”

The display of solidarity comes ahead of the England and Mexico World Cup fixture on Monday at 1am.

Reporters on the ground have spotted Tesco marching in the London parade.

The supermarket brand is another partner of Pride in London.

British Army marches in the Pride parade

The British Army has taken part in Pride in London. Forces could be seen putting on a musical display as they marched through the streets.

A military charity Fighting With Pride could be seen behind them, along with cadets.

What does Pride in London stand for this year?

Pride in London 2026 will focus heavily on four critical issues: trans healthcare rights, Black and Brown queer visibility, chosen family rights, and ending hate crime.

It also marks the beginning of London’s official bid to host WorldPride 2032.
