Findhorn was featured among the best beaches in the UK.
The Moray beauty spot was selected as part of a five-week long, 4307-mile survey of 607 longlisted beaches, though both Cullen and Spey Bay were absent despite having featured in last year’s list.
However, while Findhorn made an appearance on the top-50 list, it was not ranked Scotland’s beach of the year.
This accolade went to Horgabost, on Harris, which Times chief travel writer Chris Haslam described as “a near mythic incarnation of isolated beauty”.
Its win came in the first year that the guide was expanded to include beaches beyond the UK mainland.
Every beach featured in the top-50 ranking must have been personally inspected within the last eight weeks, with sites earning points for cleanliness, accessibility, parking, lifeguard provision, toilet and shower condition, dog-friendliness and water quality.

This year, beaches were also judged on community engagement, and the “passion and commitment of local people”.
