Broadcom Inc and Standard Chartered have announced a long-term strategic commitment to modernise the bank’s global infrastructure using VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), establishing a software-defined private cloud platform to support critical banking services across 54 markets.
The initiative reveals a shift in enterprise banking, where organisations are investing in technology platforms that can deliver operational consistency while meeting increasingly complex security and compliance requirements.
Standard Chartered said it has transitioned its infrastructure delivery to a fully integrated software-defined private cloud environment built on VMware Cloud Foundation. According to the bank, the platform embeds zero-trust security into the infrastructure layer, enables uninterrupted availability, and reduces infrastructure deployment timelines from weeks to a single day.
The bank added that around 70% of its global infrastructure footprint already runs on the new architecture, marking a significant milestone in its infrastructure modernisation programme.
Private cloud becomes central to banking modernisation
Rather than positioning infrastructure purely as an operational requirement, the announcement highlights how private cloud is becoming the foundation for supporting core banking, payments, and digital services at scale.
As banks introduce AI-enabled services and expand digital customer experiences, maintaining consistent infrastructure across multiple geographies has become a strategic priority.
