Merseyside Police confirmed an arrest has been made after a man in his 30s was stabbed

A pool of blood, clothes and scattered medical equipment marked the spot where a man was stabbed in the face. Merseyside Police officers were called to the corner of where Olney Street meets Breeze Hill in Walton just after 5am today, Saturday, following reports that a man in his 30s had been stabbed.
A force spokesperson said officers had been alerted to the incident after receiving a report from a North West Ambulance Service crew who found the man with wounds to his face and back. The man was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
A 36-year-old suspect from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent. He was taken to a police station in Merseyside where he remains in custody.
Merseyside Police Detective Chief Inspector Andrew McCourt said: “An investigation has been launched after a man has been left with serious wounds to his face and back in Walton.
“Although we have made an arrest, our enquiries into this violent offence are still ongoing and our detectives are carrying out house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries.
“Therefore, I urge people in the area to check your doorbell and dashcam footage to see if it has captured anything suspicious, no matter how small it is any information may help with the investigation.”
When the ECHO attended the scene on Saturday morning a small cordon had been erected around a section of pavement, the entrance to one house and the gate to a bin alley. Two police vehicles were in attendance.

What appeared to be dried blood could be seen inside the cordon, along with a number of clothing items which the ECHO understands was used to try and stem the bleeding.
Medical equipment including an oxygen mask and a syringe, believed to have contained painkillers or a specialist gel designed to contain severe bleeding, were also scattered inside the cordon.
A local man told the ECHO at the scene that he believed a man had been attacked with a knife. He said: “I woke up this morning and heard shouting and a scream.
“I’m a bit further down the road so I couldn’t see what it was but my neighbour said someone had been stabbed. She was out early this morning and said she saw paramedics over someone lying on the floor.”
Det Ch Ins McCourt added: “Knives have no place in our communities and can have tragic consequences, not only for the victim and their family but also for the offenders involved. We will continue to make enquiries until all those who are involved in this incident are prosecuted and brought to justice.”
