A British woman has been sentenced to six years in prison over a £100,000 rape-claim blackmail case.

Isabel Rose was found guilty after a six-day-long trial where she was convicted of blackmail and perverting the course of public justice.

A judge stated that it was ‘crystal clear’ that the 26-year-old had demanded £100,000 from the man she accused of rape.

The woman’s lawyer’s pleas for leniency based on her clean criminal record and status as a foreigner in Hong Kong were rejected by the judge.

Isabel, from Hackney, East London, was sentenced to six years in prison today (July 22), as reported by NeedToKnow.

The sentence was given at the District Court in Hong Kong.

For the last two years before her trial, the Brit was unable to work or leave Hong Kong.

After the trial, she was sent to Tai Lam Correctional Institution – Hong Kong’s oldest maximum security women’s prison.

She made the report back in 2024, claiming she was raped by a man in his Mid-Levels apartment during the early hours of 1 Feb that year.

The authorities arrested the man, who was referred to as X in the case, on suspicion of rape.

Two days later, Isabel was arrested on suspicion of blackmail, and she was subsequently charged with demanding a payment of £100,000 (HK$1.05 million) from the man.

During her trial in March, she was charged with perverting the course of justice, with the prosecution stating that she had filed a false rape report.

The man was never charged.

The judge described X as an ‘honest, credible and reliable witness’, whilst the Brit was labelled ‘dishonest, uncredible and unreliable’ as reported by Hong Kong Free Press.

District Court Judge Adriana Tse handed down a starting sentence of five years for blackmail and three years for perverting justice.

One year is to be served consecutively, resulting in a total of six years in prison.
