Crews have been working to extinguish the fire which has ripped through the roof of two adjoining properties. Two additional houses were also affected by smoke.

A video shared with KentOnline from the scene shows smoke billowing from the top of two end of terrace homes as firefighters attempt to douse the blaze with water jets.

Reed Court resident Syed Rahman said: “Two houses are on fire. The brigade are either end of the houses watering it down.”

Councillor Carol Gale, who lives in the area, said: “Two homes have completely been gutted, the roof is down and everything.

“They are Hyde Housing and they’re all built together.

“There’s so much smoke everywhere. It was absolutely billowing.

“It’s huge flames just bursting out the top of the house, it’s like the stuff you see on TV.”

The fire service advised people living or travelling near Reed Court to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke. The advice was later lifted.
