The Easter weekend in London was marred with tragedy and violence, including a 26-year-old man losing his life to knife crime. Police and paramedics were called to serious incidents within Bromley, Bexley and Tower Hamlets, with detectives also making multiple murder arrests in Woolwich.

In Peckham, two men in their 20s are fighting for their lives after a group fight outside a nightclub on Easter Monday (April 6). Aurelio Mejia, 26, succumbed to his stab injuries at the roadside.

A 17-year-old was also attacked in Bromley town centre later the same day, prompting an urgent investigation. Elsewhere, two men have been arrested after a woman was killed in a collision at a busy junction in East London. Here’s what you need to know:

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder as police continue to investigate the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in Woolwich. Eghosa Ogbebor died in Lord Warwick Street shortly after 3.40pm on Thursday, April 2.

The ‘fun and playful’ schoolboy had gone out to film a music video with friends but “never came home”, his aunt told Metro. An investigation is ongoing and officers arrested two teenagers, aged 16 and 19, on suspicion of murder on Saturday, April 4.

A 46-year-old man was also detained on suspicion of assisting an offender. Two boys, aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man, who were previously arrested on Friday, April 3 in connection with Eghosa’s death, have since been granted bail while enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, whose team is leading the investigation, said: “Our team of dedicated detectives are continuing enquiries to investigate Eghosa’s tragic death. Residents in Woolwich may have noticed a large amount of police activity last night, as officers arrested three further people in connection with the investigation.

“We appreciate the concern that Eghosa’s death has caused, particularly among the local community who will continue to see an increased police presence around the area.”

Two men have been arrested following a fatal crash in Limehouse in the early hours of Easter Sunday (April 5). A female passenger in her 30s was killed when two vehicles collided at the junction of Commercial Road and East India Dock.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at around 3.30am and treated three people for serious injuries, with the victim pronounced dead at the scene soon after. She is yet to be named by police.

Two men, one in his 20s and another in his 40s, were detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They remain in hospital as of Sunday afternoon.

A 26-year-old man was stabbed to death outside a nightclub in Peckham in the early hours of Easter Monday (April 6). Aurelio Mejia was knifed during a group fight near LAXA Lounge on Ruby Street at around 3.50am and died at the scene.

Two other men in their 20s were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement. One, aged 24, is now stable and has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detectives previously detained four men – one aged 18 and three aged 24 – on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody as of this afternoon.

A force spokesperson said: “Our thoughts remain with Aurelio’s family, who have suffered a terrible loss. We are continuing with our enquiries into this matter. As part of this, residents may notice an increased police presence in the local area.

“Given the circumstances of this incident – which occurred outside a busy nightclub – the investigation team believe there may have been many relevant witnesses. We urge anyone who has any information, dashcam or mobile phone footage which could support the investigation to contact us.”

A 17-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after a stabbing in Bromley town centre on Easter Monday (April 6). He was knifed near Primark on the area’s High Street at around 7.50pm, prompting urgent calls to 999.

Paramedics treated the teenager at the scene before rushing him to a major trauma centre ‘as a priority’. He is now in stable condition with non-life-changing injuries, the Metropolitan Police confirmed in an update this morning (March 7).

His attacker is still at large. A spokesperson for the police force said: “While no arrests have been made at this stage, officers understand the impact of knife crime and are working quickly to locate those responsible – including gathering witness statements and relevant CCTV footage.”

Two men have been taken to hospital following a stabbing on Erith High Street late on Easter Monday (April 6) The injured pair, aged in their teens and 20s, respectively, were found near Riverside Shopping Centre shortly after 9.40pm and assessed at the scene by paramedics.

One was taken to a major trauma centre, while the other declined further treatment. Their conditions are not life-changing or life-threatening, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

No arrests have been made and officers are making urgent enquiries as part of the investigation.
