Emergency services are at the scene of coastal cliff landslide at a Llŷn Peninsula beach. On Tuesday, April 7, a landslide occurred at Nefyn beach following previous landslips at the end of 2025 and the beginning of this year.
Coastal instability has also been reported at the nearby village of Porthdinllaen. North Wales Police have issued the most recent update urging people to “stay well away”.
The incident occurred close to one of the car parks adjacent to the beach. Drone footage of the latest landslide was captured by James Tatham, reports North Wales Live.
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services have been alerted to a landslide on Nefyn beach near to the car park.
“We are advising anyone in the immediate vicinity to stay well away from the affected area both above and on the beach, as more landslides may occur. Police, Coastguard and local authority colleagues will be assessing the situation as a matter of urgency.”
Nefyn beach is particularly susceptible to landslides due to the steep, unstable cliffs that back it. Signs of previous landslips and subsequent reinforcement work are visible throughout the area.
A significant slip in April 2021 left a 40-metre wide gouge in the cliffs, leaving houses perilously close to the edge.
In January 2001 a series of slides swept two cars over the cliff and onto the beach below, claiming the life of one occupant and leaving another seriously injured.
