An 18-year-old biker killed in a crash which sparked a murder investigation has been formally named.

Harley Seal died near Chestfield Barn, near Whitstable, on Friday after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in a collision with a white Mercedes A180.

Connor Todd, 19, appeared before Margate Magistrates’ Court yesterday in connection with the fatal crash, which happened shortly before 8.15pm, after being charged with murder.

An off-duty doctor and nurse were among those who stopped to help the injured rider, performing CPR until paramedics arrived.

A defibrillator was also brought from nearby Chestfield Golf Club.

Police and ambulance crews continued resuscitation attempts, but the teenager could not be revived and died at the scene.

At 9.50pm on Friday, an 18-year-old man voluntarily attended Canterbury police station and was arrested in connection with the investigation. He has since been released on bail.

Todd, of Portlight Place, Seasalter, attended the same police station the following day, where he was arrested before later being charged with murder.

He appeared before Margate Magistrates’ Court yesterday, where he was remanded in custody.

Todd is set to attend a hearing tomorrow at Maidstone Crown Court.

Floral tributes have been left at the scene where Mr Seal died.

Flowers, candles and handwritten messages now line the roadside outside the pub. Cans of energy drinks, a bottle of Jack Daniel’s and Coke, candles and a vape have also been placed beside a nearby tree in his memory.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam, doorbell or mobile phone footage showing either vehicle before or after the incident to come forward.
