Britons are likely to experience unsettled weather on Monday as the latest maps show heavy rains lashing several parts of the UK in the coming week. Weather charts generated by the Met Office today suggest downpours across 29 areas in the country, with parts of Scotland, Northern Ireland and England getting drenched by the rain.
According to the forecaster, an area of low pressure will extend across the UK from the southwest, bringing a spell of potentially heavy rain to parts of the north with showers in the south. However, the weather conditions will also bring warmer and more humid air back across England and Wales, with 30C likely to be exceeded again for some. The Met Office’s forecast for Monday to Wednesday reads: “Rain affecting northern areas Monday and Tuesday, while southern areas will turn increasing hot and humid with a chance of some showers. Showers or longer spells of rain on Wednesday.”
Met Office Chief Forecaster Chris Bulmer said: “A change in weather type early next week will see warmer conditions return across England and Wales but in contrast to much of the summer, this will be associated with showers or perhaps thunderstorms for some places.
“However, some parts of the south will only see small amounts of rain. It will stay cooler in the north with the potential for heavy rain to build up, especially over parts of Scotland.”
The maps come days after the Environment Agency (EA) announced that more than half of England has been reeling under hot conditions as it declared drought for the regions.
The announcement covered much of central, eastern and southern England, and is a public sign that further restrictions on water use might follow.
