Gunshots were reportedly heard in Croydon following reports of a group fighting in the street last night (August 7). Police were called to an ‘altercation’ on Galpin’s Road, in the Thornton Heath area, shortly after 8.30pm.
Witnesses described seeing a group of machete-wielding men who were thought to be chasing another man, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement this afternoon. A firearm was then discharged, causing a number of emergency calls to the force.
No one was found to be injured at the scene, the force added. Officers have arrested four men, aged between 19 and 24, on suspicion of affray. They remain in custody, pending further enquiries.
