A man has been taken to hospital after being rescued from the Manchester Ship Canal.<\/a><\/p>\n

Firefighters using a dinghy pulled the man from the water in Partington, Trafford<\/a> shortly before noon today (Sunday). Witnesses said the rescue took place near the Warburton toll bridge off Lock Lane.<\/p>\n

Pictures from the scene show a large emergency services presence with several fire engines and ambulances at the scene.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Shortly after 11.49am this morning (Sunday), two fire engines from Altrincham<\/a> and Gorton<\/a> fire stations, a water incident unit from Eccles<\/a> fire station, and an enhanced rescue unit from Leigh fire station were called to reports of a person in the water at Lock Lane in Partington.<\/p>\n

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters brought a man to safety from the Manchester Ship Canal using a rescue boat, before transferring him into the care of North West Ambulance Service.
