A murder<\/a> inquiry has been launched, and seven men have been arrested by police<\/a> after a 56-year-old died.<\/p>\n

Following a violent disturbance near Pontypool, Wales, on Thursday evening, three men were taken to hospital, with two of those initially said to be in a critical condition.<\/p>\n

Gwent Police<\/a> has confirmed one has since died after sustaining life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

Officers were called to reports of “violent disorder<\/a>” involving a group of men in Mill Street, at around 7.15pm on Thursday, August 6.<\/p>\n

Anthony Jones, known as Tony, 56, from Brecon, passed away in hospital. His family are being supported by specialist officers.<\/p>\n

In total, seven men \u2013 aged 31, 39, 40, 45, 59, 61, and 73 – have been arrested in connection with the disorder. All seven remain in police custody.<\/p>\n

Senior investigating officer, Detective Superintendent Laura Bartley said: “We recognize that reports of this nature will cause concern in our community, but we have officers working around the clock conducting inquiries as part of the investigation.<\/p>\n

“We’re trying to establish the movements of those involved both before and after the disorder and are asking motorists who were driving along Hospital Road, Mill Road and the surrounding areas between 6pm and 9pm on Thursday to check their dashcam footage.<\/p>\n

On Friday morning, a police cordon remained in place at Mill Road and Hospital Road as investigations into the incident continued.
