{"id":100753,"date":"2026-08-10T13:48:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T13:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/100753\/"},"modified":"2026-08-10T13:48:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T13:48:11","slug":"pudsey-new-shops-plan-at-former-hsbc-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/100753\/","title":{"rendered":"Pudsey: New shops plan at former HSBC building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"has-text-align-right wp-block-paragraph\">By John Baron<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plans to turn part of the former Pudsey HSBC Bank building into two shops have been submitted to Leeds City Council.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applicant Harseen Abdul Karim, of real estate company <a href=\"https:\/\/find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk\/company\/16098200\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Golden Oak Estate<\/a>, has submitted the plans to change the front part off the ground floor into two retail units. The rear of the ground floor is not included in the application.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The works include new glazed shopfront openings, installing two new glazed entrance doors, and introducing slim black aluminium framing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A design statement submitted with the application concludes: \u201cThe alterations have been designed to improve the functionality of the building while preserving its architectural character and maintaining the quality of the existing streetscape.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLarge, glazed panels improve natural daylight and visibility into the shop while maintaining the original structural rhythm of the fa\u00e7ade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The proposals are the latest in a series of applications for the Church Lane building, which have previously included residential, retail and a hot food takeaway. At one stage <a href=\"https:\/\/westleedsdispatch.com\/starbucks-interested-in-former-pudsey-hsbc-bank-site\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Starbucks was linked <\/a>with opening a coffee shop there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In June WLD reported how the planned conversion of the building\u2019s downstairs into five flats were <a href=\"https:\/\/westleedsdispatch.com\/council-blocks-former-pudsey-hsbc-homes-plan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">blocked by the city council<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ground floor has been empty since HSBC closed its doors in October 2020. Flats are already based in the floors above.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Plans can be <a href=\"https:\/\/publicaccess.leeds.gov.uk\/online-applications\/applicationDetails.do?keyVal=TIGNH9JBLBV00&amp;activeTab=summary\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">viewed in full here<\/a>.
