{"id":103057,"date":"2026-08-13T22:15:45","date_gmt":"2026-08-13T22:15:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/103057\/"},"modified":"2026-08-13T22:15:45","modified_gmt":"2026-08-13T22:15:45","slug":"barclays-faces-employee-backlash-over-return-to-office-push","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/103057\/","title":{"rendered":"Barclays faces employee backlash over return-to-office push"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Barclays is facing pushback from staff over its return-to-office plans after the UK lender said it would increase mandated office attendance for all employees from October this year.<\/p>\n<p>Employees have provided \u201csignificant feedback\u201d to Unite, their union, which has raised staff concerns directly with the bank.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after Barclays <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebanker.com\/content\/f74a70d0-3577-4f74-bcf0-15d721319abe\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tightened the screw on working-from-home arrangements<\/a> for employees across its global offices last month, as first reported by The Banker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnite has received significant feedback from Barclays employees regarding the proposed increase in office attendance. We have raised our members\u2019 concerns directly with the bank and continue to engage constructively on the issue,\u201d a spokesperson for the union said.<\/p>\n<p>The bank\u2019s managing directors will be expected to come into the office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebanker.com\/content\/b48f106b-1408-4f63-bcc0-bc5446605871\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">four days per week<\/a>, while all other employees will face a mandated three-day-per-week policy beginning in October.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of our colleagues who are not already working in the office three days [per week] will align with our broader approach across the bank,\u201d a Barclays spokesperson told The Banker.<\/p>\n<p>The additional day for the bank\u2019s senior leaders will \u201csupport collaboration, decision-making and leadership visibility\u201d, they added.<\/p>\n<p>Employees received the memo with information specific to their country offices last month.<\/p>\n<p>The changes are expected to affect around half of the bank\u2019s 45,000 staff in the UK, including those in operations and technology functions.<\/p>\n<p>Barclays said: \u201cWe recognise the benefits of balancing flexibility for colleagues with the importance of working together in our physical locations.
