{"id":104697,"date":"2026-08-16T20:25:33","date_gmt":"2026-08-16T20:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/104697\/"},"modified":"2026-08-16T20:25:33","modified_gmt":"2026-08-16T20:25:33","slug":"new-hmrc-enforcement-blitz-means-nowhere-to-run-for-dodgy-high-street-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/britain\/104697\/","title":{"rendered":"New HMRC enforcement blitz means nowhere to run for dodgy high street businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Public encouraged to \u2018shop\u2019 firms breaking the law and blighting the high street, from vape shops to barbers<br \/>\nComes as HMRC improves its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/report-tax-fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">tax fraud reporting service<\/a>, making it easier to report something that doesn\u2019t look right<br \/>\nHMRC to carry out more than 30,000 interventions this year to tackle tax fraud and illegal activity on high streets<\/p>\n<p>Chancellor John Healey is urging people to report tax fraud as HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) ramps up its work to tackle illegal activity on the high street. <\/p>\n<p>The improved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/report-tax-fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Report Tax Fraud service on GOV.UK<\/a> makes it easier than ever to \u2018shop&#8217; high street businesses they suspect are involved in fraud, from vape shops to barber shops.<\/p>\n<p>The service prompts users for specific, factual information about what they have observed \u2013 such as suspicious activity, behaviour, locations and timings to do with money laundering or other HMRC-related criminal activity.<\/p>\n<p>Information submitted through the service will help HMRC&#8217;s enforcement teams build intelligence, identify patterns, assess risks and target its compliance and enforcement activity more effectively.
